The mother and family of deceased 15-year-old Jaquin Thomas has sued a range of authorities responsible for the Orleans Parish jail, for negligence and personal injury resulting in the alleged suicide of Mr. Thomas while an inmate at the jail. He had been arrested on suspicion of burglary and second degree murder - but had never been formally charged. The suit also charges the defendants with responsibility for Mr. Thomas's wrongful death.

Rebecca Dooley, a passenger in the car driven by former Saints star Will Smith the night he was shot by Cardell Hayes, has sued Hayes, his insuror and another insuror for injuries she sustained when Hayes rear-ended Mr. Smith's car before the subsequent shooting in a road-rage incident.
